Bella Rose – Big City Fashion, Small Town Charm

By: Sally Boone

Bella Rose boutique, on the corner of Maxwell and Upper Street, has been bringing “big city fashion to the small town of Lexington” for almost 40 years now. The eclectic, yet elegant store was opened by Betty Spain as a vintage consignment shop but eventually grew into the retail store that we all know today. We interviewed Blake, who has been working at Bella Rose for a year now and took a closer look at what makes the store so unique as well as the inside scoop on their upcoming February sale. We interviewed Blake, who has been an employee at Bella Rose for a year now to get the inside scoop on what makes the store so unique as well as what to expect for their upcoming February sale.

Bella Rose prides itself on providing unique looks that customers can’t find just anywhere. They host a variety of styles for women of all ages and for all occasions such as homecoming, date night, work or black-tie events. Blake likes to say, “we can dress the mother, grandmother, and daughter – anyone from 16-96 we’ve got something for.” After looking through the store’s vast inventory, we’re inclined to believe him. They specialize in being the boutique that customers turn to “when they have that special event that they want to feel glamorous and beautiful – we have those pieces.” Best of all, they offer styling tips and personal assistance so all customers get that memorable one-on-one attention to make sure they are getting the best outfit for any occasion.

Bella Rose has been an integral part of Lexington’s downtown community for decades and is proud to be a part of the small business scene. Their favorite aspect of operating a business in Lexington is the sense of fellowship and family. They love how Lexington has grown in the past 40 years and how the people have cultivated a partnership where businesses can bounce ideas off one another and never feel isolated. The community is so special because “for such a small town, there is so much here especially in terms of restaurants and places to shop” according to Blake. Bella Rose loves the small business community in Lexington, but they particularly love the local coffee shops, specifically Old School Coffee.

Luckily for the Lexington locals, Bella Rose is having a major sale running from February 17-22. This will be their first-ever sample sale where a huge selection of gowns will be at least 40% off! Their basement level is home to 700 colorful and unique, full-length evening dresses ranging from prom to mother of the bride or groom, and many will be on sale at this time. The sale has many styles, but will mainly be wedding-focused and will feature some of the most sought-after designers such as Badgley Mischka and Teri Jon. This is the perfect time to shop for spring and summer weddings, especially because they have never done a markdown so extreme!

When asked if there was one thing that they would like to tell the Lexington community, Blake responded, “Come see us! We have so many things going on this year with the Breeders Cup being held locally and our 40th birthday.” Leading up to the 40 year anniversary of the store’s opening, they will be having 40 days of trunk shows with vendors and bonus inventory along with their birthday party. More details to come closer to May. For more information on Bella Rose, check out their Instagram @bellaroselex or their website at www.bellarosestyle.com.
