Valentine’s Day in Downtown Lexington

By Mercedes Adams

Originating in Roman and Greek Mythology, Cupid is the son of love. Flying around with golden arrows he aims to make people fall in love with one another. However you choose to spend this hallmark holiday, downtown has you covered. Galentine’s and friend dates have become more common over the years and because of this some of the honorable mentions of downtown may be less conventional than the traditional plans made for the day. Don’t worry though, for those of you that have been lucky enough to be hit with Cupid’s arrow, there are plenty of spots to build the romance during the holiday.

Need a reason to wear that dress or suit that has been sitting in your closet?  Red Mile is having its “free milkshake Monday” as well as its Monday Match-up, and weekly Race to the Top promotions. A fun time at the casino is the perfect excuse to dress up and add some spice to your night!

LexLive is another great option for anyone coupled up for the holiday. Home to a bowling alley, arcade games, dining room, and a full bar, you could experience the fun of several date night activities without ever having to leave the building! With so many activities to choose from it’s hard to count this one out.

Infinity: A Skybar & Café offers the perfect location for a night out, no matter who your company is. Located on the rooftop of Lexington Marriott City Center, the bar’s wall of windows offers a unique perspective of downtown Lexington. Grab a delicious meal or just a couple of cocktails, the choice is yours!

Jeff Ruby’s is hands down the place to be for Valentine’s Day. Given its popularity, make sure you call ahead so you can guarantee your spot. Some of the top menu choices to pick from are the Oysters Rockefeller as an appetizer, Petite Filet Mignon topped with bourbon peppercorn sauce as a main, and for dessert the classic butter pie.

Flowers are a necessity when it comes to Valentine’s Day. Some go-to Lexington florists are Ashland Florist, Michler’s Florist Greenhouses and Garden Design, and E Stephen Hein Florist. All above a 4.5-star rating and in the downtown area, giving you not only easy access but a thoughtful gift for your loved one.

If you’re looking for somewhere to go after dinner that isn’t home, book a staycation. Staying and exploring the local area doesn’t have to be boring. The Hilton Lexington/Downtown, Lexington Marriott City Center, 21c Museum Hotel Lexington, and Hyatt Regency Lexington are all in the heart of downtown Lexington. Being able to feel like you’ve had time to yourselves and escape for the weekend might be just what you need to renew your love.

Of course, there are so many other great ideas for places and gifts so don’t limit yourself! Hopefully, you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day and get to spend it with those you love.
