A Letter from the DLC to Prospective Participants:
The staff of the DLC welcomes you to
Mayfest! Whether you have
participated before or are just discovering this event for the first time, we
thank you for your interest and sincerely hope that any experience you have
with this event is a positive one.
The Downtown Lexington Corporation is pleased to present you with the applications for the 2008 Mayfest Arts Fair, located in historic Gratz Park in beautiful downtown Lexington, Kentucky. We are even more thrilled to announce that the 2008 Mayfest has been selected as one of Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Events for the Month of May 2008 and also awarded a Top Ten Spring Event by the Kentucky Tourism Council. This means even more extensive exposure in the print media, web, television and radio in the U.S. and Canada, including over 800 newspapers, magazines, radio & television stations and AAA’s.
This
award is particularly meaningful to the DLC since our organization recently
underwent a change in administration and staff, and just completed our first
full calendar year as a new organization.
The fact that the award is based in part on a review of the previous
year’s event tells us that our hard work in producing the 2007 Mayfest event
didn’t go unnoticed. We took
great pains to develop meaningful relationships with our vendors and
re-evaluated the event in ways that would be of the biggest benefit to both
the vendors and the guests. Our
success was evidenced in the feedback by many returning vendors who reported
significantly higher sales at the 2007 event than any other previous year’s
event. We plan to build on those
changes to continue to improve the exposure for our vendors.
The DLC would like to
emphasize that the focus of the Mayfest event is “Something For Everyone”
by
appealing to a broad demographic. While
our jury process will stay in place to ensure a high quality of product, we
will continue to reach out to all income levels and walks of life by providing
something of interest to not only the high-end art buyer, but also the median
income family with children, the college student, the young single
professional and the retired senior on a fixed income. High scoring artists
will retain a place of honor at our art fair, and we have added a local art
vendor from the 2007 event to our planning committee to ensure that the
interests of the vendors have a strong voice in the planning process.
We are very excited to move toward the 2008 event and have every confidence that it will be our best year yet. We look forward to having you there with us.
