Interns and Volunteers

As a local, non-profit organization with a small staff, the DLC relies heavily on the participation of its interns and volunteers in order to provide free, quality entertainment events to the public.  We welcome any and all offers of assistance.  If you are looking for a fun way to get involved in the community, meet new people and  contribute to the entertainment, lifestyle and vitality of this city, then take a look at our opportunities below and give us a call!  

Interns

Each semester, the DLC reserves places for several unpaid intern positions.  Interns are assigned to positions that complement their focus; however, due to the nature of our function as an event-producing organization, all interns should be available and prepared to participate in any of our events.  Intern positions include:

Special Events: assisting the DLC Event Coordinator with the arrangements and execution of special events such as Mayfest, Best of the Bluegrass, Thursday Night Live, Artist's Market, the Christmas Parade and the DLC Annual Meeting (see the events directory for more information on each of these events).  

Marketing: assisting the President, Vice-President and Program And Resources Coordinator with marketing & promotions activities such as press releases, online event promotions, distribution of materials, mailing campaigns and design & creation of promotional materials.

Membership & Business Development:  assisting the VP Buisiness Development with membership-related activities including membership management, building reports, internet research, helping to develop membership incentives, assisting with the monthly Merchant Forum Meetings, event sponsorship proposals and other business-development related projects on hand.

Volunteers

We welcome volunteers to contact us at any time.  Whether you would like to volunteer for just one task, one day or or on an ongoing basis, you can be sure that any assistance you are willing to provide will be greatly appreciated!  Browse the selection of our many volunteer opportunities and see if there is a match for you:

Special Events:  We need volunteers for all of our events.  Our events include Trash Bash, Best of the Bluegrass, Mayfest, Thursday Night Live, Artist's Market, the Christmas Parade and the DLC Annual Meeting (see the events directory for more information on each of these events).  Volunteer opportunities include helping us to set up or break down equipment for an event, running a booth, selling tickets or concessions, serving beer at Thursday Night Live or Mayfest (over age 20 only), event registration, providing information and conducting guest surveys.

In the Office:  We can always use a little extra help in the office.  Many of the tasks or projects may be the same as those listed above under the intern positions or may also be more mundane tasks such as helping to hand-address envelopes, answering phones or setting up new files.  We also may need help with general projects that require internet research, phone-calling, or walking around the Downtown area.
