Board of Directors
The DLC Board of Directors is a widely diverse and dedicated group of men and women who are the policy makers for the organization.

Executive
The Executive Committee is a branch of the Board of Directors that acts as a steering committee to the DLC, advising staff and handling interim action between board meetings.

Annual Meeting & Awards of Excellence
The Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon includes a program to honor individuals and businesses contributing to Downtown improvements.  A key note speaker addresses current issues pertaining to downtown.  This committee will meet June through December and as needed throughout the year.

 

Downtown Merchant Forum
Retail & Restaurant merchants pursue ideas that would encourage shoppers to patronize their establishments.  This committee is currently scheduled to meet the first Wednesday of every month at 8:30 am in the Victorian Square.  Anyone with an interest in Downtown economic/ retail development should attend.

 

Holidays Downtown
The Holidays Downtown Committee is responsible for coordination of all Holiday Related Events.  The largest event, the Annual Downtown Lexington Christmas Parade is one of the largest parades in Kentucky.  Other events include the LFUCG Tree Lighting ceremony and numerous retail promos to encourage shopping downtown.  This committee will meet based on proximity to the event(s); most meetings will be held scheduled September to December

 

Kentucky Stars
Kentucky Stars honors Kentuckians with significant contribution to the Arts.  Eligibility requires that someone was born in KY or lived here at least 10 years.  This committee will meet based on proximity to the event(s), most meetings will be held April to October.

 

Landscape and Streetscape
The Landscape and Streetscape Committee meets to discuss and act on topics ranging from new street furniture to public art, from advertising racks to signage and trash collection.

 

Marketing 
The Marketing Committee is a vital group that develops marketing strategies and promotions ideas for the DLC. The committee advises staff and plans campaigns for marketing efforts in print, television and radio, as well as other marketing venues.  This committee also assists in recommending and obtaining sponsors.

 

Mayfest Planning
The Mayfest Committee is charged with the planning, marketing, and execution of DLC’s largest annual event.  Mayfest is held on Mother’s Day weekend and typically brings in an average of 25,000 people from all over the world.  This event was awarded “Top Ten Kentucky Festival” in 2004.  This committee will meet based on proximity to the event generally Dec – May.

The Membership Committee attracts and retains members; advises on membership events and benefits. 

 

Parking and Transportation
The Parking Committee addresses one-way/two-way streets, parking meter usage, a Universal Parking Validation program and other parking issues.  Another function of this group is to examine feasible modes of alternative transportation in an effort to alleviate traffic congestion – trolleys, bikes and other means are all being discussed. 

 

Summer in the City
Summer in the City consists of several individual events held in the summer months.  The largest event, Thursday Night Live, is a series of live music concerts held each Thursday night in Cheapside Park from June to August.  Other events DLC promotes during this time are Noontime Diversions, Classic Movie Series and the LFUCG Diversity Festival.  The Summer in the City committee is charged with band selection for TNL, marketing, and execution of these events.  This committee will meet based on proximity to the event; approximately bi-monthly in fall/winter, monthly in spring, and bi-weekly in the summer.
