Downtown Lexington is filled with beautiful places to take your next photo, with its impressive catalog of murals, architecture, art galleries, and parks. Grab your camera or phone and head to these 5 Insta-worthy spots in #downtownlex.

1. VisitLex’s ‘Lex’ Sign

Located beside the Historic Lexington Courthouse, the Lexington Visitors Center’s ‘Lex’ sign is a great spot to grab a picture to commemorate your trip to the Horse Capital of the world. After your photoshoot, you can head over to The Horse & Jockey around the corner for some ale battered fish and chips for lunch.

2. 21c Museum Hotel’s Contemporary Art Museum

The unique 21c Museum Hotel truly is a one-of-a-kind boutique hotel. Home to a cultural center, Lockbox restaurant, and a contemporary art museum, there are endless photo opportunities to take advantage of. This art museum is North America’s first museum dedicated solely to collecting and exhibiting the art of the 21st century and it features more than 7,000 square feet of exhibition space for its carefully curated art. The galleries are open every day and the exhibitions rotate, so be sure to check out the exhibition schedule.

3. Thoroughbred Park

Thoroughbred Park, located along Midland Avenue, is the perfect spot to snap a photo during any season. The 2.5-acre park is dedicated to the Thoroughbred industry, containing 7 life-size bronze racehorse statues racing toward the finish line, created by renowned artist Gwen Reardon. A few other horse and foal statues can be found grazing in the field as you walk through the park. Not only is the park a great spot for a picture, but you can also enjoy the green space with a picnic when you’re done or make the short walk over to A Cup of Common Wealth for a coffee.

4. Man o’ War Mural

This 30 by 30 foot mural of the legendary racehorse ‘Man o’ War’ is truly a work of art. Created by Augustin Zarate and commissioned by LexArts, the mural was painted in honor of Man o’ War’s 100th birthday in 2017. The mural depicts the famed thoroughbred’s 1920 Belmont Stakes victory. Grab your camera and head over to West Short Street to the Postmaster’s Pub to see this beautiful piece of artwork yourself.

5. Lincoln Mural

This massive, colorful mural pays homage to our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. The 60-foot-tall mural is said to be the world’s largest mural of Lincoln. It has also been named the top 20 best murals to take a selfie with by USA Today! This unique mural was created by artist Eduardo Kobra. The mural is a psychedelic twist on the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. with its vibrant colors and patterns overlapping the president’s outline. Head over to East Main Street, directly behind The Kentucky Theatre, to catch a glimpse of this jaw-dropping sight.

On nearly every corner of downtown Lexington, there is something picturesque to share. Whether that be a fun drink, delicious food, unique architecture or jaw-dropping artwork, #downtownlex has all you need to find your next great post.
