Clean Sweep Car WashLush foliage outside of the Clean Sweep Car Wash

Clean Sweep Car Wash is more than just your typical soap and water job. Clean Sweep features artwork by a local sculptor, a fountain that runs year-round, and a bounty of colorful flowers to entice passersby. In the winter, holiday decorations liven up this corner of Broadway.  For going above and beyond normal landscape requirements in an effort to truly enhance a major gateway to our Downtown we honor the art, landscape, and fountains of the Clean Sweep Car Wash.

The Lofts at Main & Rose Rear corner view of the Lofts at Main & Rose

The Lofts at Main & Rose is a high quality, mixed use project on Main St in Downtown Lexington. The project includes nearly 100 residential condos, 25,000 square feet of retail and over 280 parking spaces all on the site of a former 200 space surface parking lot. The lofts contribute to our city’s public art inventory, and to the creation of a walk able community. It contains wonderful rooftop gardens, designed by John Carloftis, and displays wonderful examples of public art. Main & Rose has even incorporated a “raised sidewalk” design seen in places such as New York City’s many public parks. Additionally, the building is of an appropriate scale and size to fit in with surrounding buildings.  For transforming a surface parking lot into a grand example of how public art can dramatically enhance the streetscape in a mixed use project, we honor the vision of the Main & Rose LLC Ownership Group with the 2008 DLC Landscape & Streetscape Award.

Leadership Achievement Award

Given to the business or organization which best exemplifies exceptional contribution to the business, civic, or human vitality of Downtown Lexington.

Kentucky Blood Center

Coach Brooks, donating blood at the KY Blood CenterThe Kentucky Blood Center is a non-profit organization who’s mission is to save lives by providing blood products of the highest quality to patients in Kentucky in an economically sound manner.

Created in 1968, and then named the Central Kentucky Blood Center, this became a central location where blood could be collected, tested, and distributed to ensure each hospital would have enough to treat their patients. In March 2007, the organization dropped the “Central” and became known as the Kentucky Blood Center, a name that better reflects it’s service area, which now covers the entire eastern half of the state.

The Kentucky Blood Center recently celebrated it’s 40th anniversary. They host several contests each year, including the annual Big Blue Crush, a donation contest between the Universities of Kentucky and Tennessee the week before the football game in the fall.

For their commitment to saving lives, being good stewards of their resources, and building strong community relationships, we honor our partner and a partner to Downtown and the Commonwealth.  Congratulations to the Kentucky Blood Center for receiving the 2008 DLC Perfect Partner Award.

LexPark Outriders (the Chariot Guys)L to R: Philip Segar, Carlton Chenault, Danny Hill, Pete Spencer & Mike Pope

The Mission of the Lexington & Fayette County Parking Authority is to provide, maintain and operate adequate, high-quality, customer-focused public parking and encourage economic growth for the benefit of the residents, businesses and visitors of Lexington-Fayette County.

Since July of 2008, a team of outriders have been patrolling the streets of Lexington, to encourage on-street parking for visitors of downtown by discouraging meter feeding. The Outriders are directing, organizing, moving and creating space for everyone to be able to come Downtown and have an enjoyable experience – and they’re doing all of that on three-wheeled, environmentally Green, chariots.

For ensuring that everyone can find a parking spot when they need it, we honor the LexPark Outriders (the chariot guys) with the 2008 DLC Smiley Pete Award.
